Rises in the Phi Pan Nam Range in Pong district, Phayao province. It flows through Phrae, Sukhothai, Phitsanulok and Phichit, then joins the Nan River in Chum Saeng district, Nakhon Sawan province. It is the only one of the four main tributaries that still has no large dam across its main channel.
